Turns out, Warner Bros. is creating a Funko Pop animated movie. The Oscar-nominated director and designer Teddy Newton is going to create the storyline. Mark Dindal, a Disney vet, is going to take on the directing role.
Funko CEO Brian Mariotti is excited for what’s come. He assures fans it isn’t about selling toys or products, though.
We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make [sic] an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.
For nearly two decades, Funko has been in a partnership with Warner Bros. to create figures based on their characters. Warner isn’t the only group they have ties to, though.
TV series, films, video games, and more have been Funko-fied. Characters like Harry Potter from the film franchise of the same name, Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect, Discord from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, JoJo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and way more have found themselves turned into Funko Pop figures.
