No one needs an introduction to The Goonies. The coming-of-age film about a group of outcast kids seeking treasure has always stuck in the minds of its viewers. Not to mention the Truffle Shuffle. But, one thing was always the question the main cast had to answer, “when is The Goonies 2 coming out?”
This is a question much of its cast always maintained “someday”. But, it never appears to be as it falls into a development hell situation every time. During Fan Expo, Sean Astin, Ke Huy Quan, and Corey Feldman all gave similar answers of “someday” and apologized for it taking so long. Sean Astin then went to assure it will happen.
The someday part, someday it’ll happen . . .
He continued by explaining it’s all on audience demand. Though, it’s not too assuring since The Goonies 2 has always been at the forefront of fans for the past 30 years or so.
The audience wants it, they’re gonna do it, it’s annoying it’s taking so long, I’m sorry on behalf of Steven Spielberg.
Spielberg made the bold claim that he wanted to make The Goonies 2 back in 2014, but it just fell flat and no one heard anything about, especially if the original cast would play a part. Back in April, Astin acknowledged the torch may have to be passed.
Some of the actors in the original have gone on to do bigger things in the entertainment world while Chunk’s actor, Jeff Cohen, left the acting industry altogether.
Odds are, The Goonies 2, will act as a soft reboot with a new cast of characters, possibly the children of the original cast, going on a similar, yet different enough adventure.
