Chris Pratt and Tom Holland at one point recorded lines together for Pixar’s Onward. In an interview during D23 Expo, director Dan Scanlon mentioned how they managed to get the two lead protagonists in the same room to record for some scenes.
We were able to get them together once and it was so fun just watching them talk to each other.
Scanlon continued by mentioning Pratt and Holland were clearly close.
They’re clearly friends and watching them make each other laugh. And just this sort of big brotherly quality Chris has with Tom.
During these times of recording together, according to Scanlon, Pratt would reword directions that he would give Holland to make it easier to understand.
Chris, actually taking some of this direction I was giving Tom, and saying it in a way that Tom would better understand coming from him. It was just cool watching this brotherly actor relationship — [it] was a real joy.
Producer Kori Rae mentioned they did it in this way to boost the emotion in the film. Afterwards, Scanlon expressed the scenes chosen were ones where they were either “very comic or emotional”.
Both Chris Pratt and Tom Holland are MCU veterans, having played Peter Quill and Spider-Man respectively.
Onward was announced earlier this year by Pixar. The film follows brothers Ian and Barely Lightfoot as they embark on a quest to find magic in their modernized world so that they can see their father who died when they were young.
Pixar’s Onward is hitting theaters on March 6, 2020.
