Hulu has reportedly canned their attempt at a “Grisham Universe”. Last year, Hulu announced they were forming two different shows that would overarch each other. These shows, The Rainmaker and Rogue Lawyer, would be based on the novels of the same name written by the revered legal thriller author, John Grisham.
The project was being done so that, rather than solely watching a single series, the viewer could go back and forth between the two. But, it wasn’t necessarily required as they were making in such a way that it could be digestible without having to bounce back and forth. That being said, the series would share characters and plot points.
The Rainmaker was released back in 1995 and follows a recent law grad unfurling a multi-billion dollar insurance scam. 2015’s Rogue Lawyer, on the other hand, follows Sebastian Rudd, a street lawyer who made a name for himself by taking on cases no one will.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, an unnamed source claimed that the project was being scrapped. The reason behind it was attributed to their desire to continue The Handmaid’s Tale series with an adaption of The Testaments.
The Disney-owned streaming platform also is in the process of creating multiple series based on George R.R. Martin’s Wild Cards novel series.
