Eddie Huang, a notable chef and restaurateur, is making his feature directorial debut in the coming-of-age story, Boogie. The film, which is also written by Huang, will tell the story of a Chinese-American in contemporary New York seeking to balance his dreams of playing for the NBA and family expectations.
The film will feature Taylor Takahashi taking on the title role. Meanwhile, Pamelyn Chee and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. are cast as co-stars. Josh Bratman, Josh McLaughlin, and Michael Tadross are taking on the producing duties.
Boogie will be distributed by Focus Features domestically with Universal Pictures International taking on the international distribution.
Huang isn’t new to the entertainment industry. Before the film, he hosted the cooking show, Cheap Bites and then Huang’s World for Viceland. His memoir, Fresh Off The Boat: A Memoir, was later turned into an ABC series of the same name.
